PT Adult Education, MassSTEP Academic and Workplace Skills Instructor (Grant)

Grade Level Equivalent 9 - 12

Classes are held: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 12:30 - 2

15 hrs per week, August 15, 2024 - June 30, 2025

Non-benefited, grant-funded MCCC unit position

SALARY: $32.00 per hour

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The PT Adult Education MassSTEP (Skills, Training, and Education Program) Academic and Workplace Skills Instructor plays a pivotal role in delivering contextualized instruction to adult learners aspiring to pursue careers in the IT sector. Working closely with the IT Instructor and the MassSTEP Program Coordinator, this role facilitates the DESE-funded MassSTEP workforce training program, emphasizing HiSET and/or college preparation and Career Readiness. By integrating college and career readiness curriculum tailored to the IT field, the instructor ensures that students acquire the necessary skills for success in both academia and the workforce as part of the integrated MassSTEP Team. Through a blend of in-class instruction and digital resources, the instructor creates a dynamic learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of adult learners. The program serves (2) cohorts of 15 students each from September through June.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Conduct face-to-face instruction three days per week for MassSTEP students with documented, written lesson plans that incorporate the College & Career Readiness Standards for adult learners as directed by DESE
  2. Collaborate closely with the IT instructor on aligned curriculum pacing with integrated contextualized lessons that reflect single learning objectives throughout the course
  3. Demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement with ongoing professional growth, consistent review of student assessment data, and responsiveness to classroom observation feedback by the Adult Learning Center's (ALC) Senior Special Programs Coordinator.
  4. Provide ongoing differentiated academic support to high school and college level students guided by the ALC's Scope & Sequence in Math and ELA and student needs
  5. Conduct a minimum of weekly formative assessments to continuously gather "real-time" data about student progress
  6. Integrate student goal planning into classroom instruction in collaboration with ALC Advisors
  7. Participate in new student orientation to facilitate seamless integration into the program
  8. Create and manage a MassSTEP Google Classroom with archived resources and student work
  9. Engage in pre and post planning sessions with the ALC staff team, as well as weekly staff meetings, and individual check-ins to enhance collaboration and student success

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Senior Special Programs Coordinator of the Adult Learning Center


Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • Minimum of two years of teaching experience with adult learners
  • Dedicated to fostering mutuality and respect for diverse learners in the classroom and beyond
  • Proficiency in remote learning platforms, including Zoom and Google Classroom
  • Previous experience in HiSET or GED instruction preferred
  • Experience in crafting career readiness materials such as resumes and cover letters
  • Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.
