Nature of Work:

Due to significant program expansion, the Department of Counseling and Human Services in the College of Education at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applicants for a non-tenure track, full-time Instructor position in the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts in Human services and/or CACREP-accredited Master's in Clinical Mental Health and/or School Counseling programs, and/or the Air Officer Commanding Master's Program. Preferred candidates will hold a CACREP-accredited Master's Degree or higher with training and experience in substance use and recovery counseling, as well as teaching addictions related courses (e.g. supervision, principles of addictions counseling, substance use counseling skills, ethics, motivational interviewing); (4/4 teaching load; summer teaching is also available); maintaining an advising caseload of graduate and undergraduate students; supervising practicum and internship students; and providing service to support the department, college, and university (when relevant). Job Competencies

To be successful in this position, candidates are encouraged to have:
  • Demonstrated experience in substance use and recovery counseling
  • Demonstrated experience in field supervision in professional role
  • Demonstrated experience in distance learning and/or online learning in counseling
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others, such as co-teaching and/or team-teaching experiences, shared roles in committee or professional organizations, etc.
  • Accreditation experience, and/or openness to learning and participating in these processes
  • Strong organizational skills

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to anti-oppressive pedagogy, advocacy, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
  • Experience using technology to enhance educational experiences and access for students pursuing counselor preparation

Work Location: This position is intended to be in person, on campus. Hybrid opportunities available as coordinated with the department chair.
This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $50,000 - $55,000 per academic year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. The University of Colorado Colorado Springs offers excellent benefits, some of which include:

Tentative Search Timeline:
  • Priority will be given to applications submitted by 11:59 PM on March 31, 2024. However, this posting will remain open until filled.

  • The potential dates for in-person, on campus, interviews with the supervisor and appointing authority will be mid-late April 2024.

Qualifications
Please note that while the position details both required qualifications as well as preferred qualifications below, we want applicants to be aware that they do not need to have all of the desired skills and experience to be considered for this position. Minimum Qualifications - Must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire
  • Earned Master's Degree from a CACREP-Accredited program, or in a related field such as Psychology, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Counseling
  • Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC) in Colorado, or independent addictions licensure in another state, and are license-eligible in Colorado

Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado, or independent licensure in another state, and are license-eligible in Colorado
  • Experience and/or education in substance use and recovery counseling, with the ability to teach foundations and philosophy of substance use and recovery counseling

OR
  • ABD and/or currently enrolled in a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education and Supervision Ph.D. program
  • Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Doctorate in a closely related field (e.g., counseling psychology or marriage and family therapy) and to have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for at least a full academic year before July 1, 2013
