Job Description:


GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The basic purpose of this work is to ensure the safe and adequate functioning of electrical systems and equipment on an extremely busy campus. Must be able to multi task and respond promptly to urgent situations.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Will test, repair, install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Troubleshoots electrical and related equipment.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of equipment and materials.
  • Inspects the work of outside contractors; determines materials and/or equipment necessary for a job and on-the-job procedure changes.
  • Performs high volume of related work as required.



Requirements:


  • Applicant must have at least one (1) year of full time, or equivalent part time, experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.
  • Experience in Commercial Industrial environment.
  • A current and valid MA Journeyman or Master Electrician license issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.
  • Knowledge of state and local electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
  • Knowledge of basic algebra.
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of small hand tools used in electrical practice such as pliers, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of equipment including testing equipment used in electrical work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and precautions observed in the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of inspection techniques used in the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of the types and uses of hand held power tools such as drills, etc.
  • Skill in using small hand tools such as pliers, screwdrivers, etc.
  • Skill in the use of precision measuring equipment, gauges and instrumentation used in electrical work.
  • Skill in using hand held power tools such as drills.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws, rules and regulations governing assigned unit activities.
  • Ability to lead a group of workers.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations concerning electrical practice.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to prepare and use charts, graphs and tables.
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others.
  • Ability to perform arithmetical computations with speed and accuracy (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations to determine voltage, amperage and resistance factors.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as electrical plans, schematics, drawings, etc.
  • Ability to make decisions and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • Ability to climb and work from ladders and scaffolds.
  • Ability to install, maintain and repair electrical wiring systems and equipment.
  • Ability to detect and locate causes of electrical failure or breakdown of equipment.
  • Ability to work with the tools, materials and equipment of the electrical trade.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5-7 years of experience of full time or equivalent part time experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Exposed to the hazards of high voltage; climb and work from ladders and scaffolds. Working conditions may vary from job to another. May encounter anything from clean, open areas to dirty cramped spaces. Exposure to hot or cold temperatures. Possible exposure to distracting/ uncomfortable noise levels. Standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, squatting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, grasping, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and close vision and color vision.
