Applications are now being accepted for the position of Dean of Learning Resources and Academic Support at San Diego Mesa College beginning approximately July 1, 2024. Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction at Mesa, the individual in this position will plan, organize and direct a dynamic major campus resource center, including the Library, professional development, distance education and academic administrative areas at Mesa College. Major Responsibilities General
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Vice President of Instruction and President.
  • Develop and monitor area budgets, and monitor the District budget with regard to all areas of assignment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations of staff (supervisors) and faculty.
  • Oversee the Mesa College Faculty Evaluation process.
  • Ability to provide leadership, direction, and support to faculty and classified staff within the departments and programs in the School of Learning Resources and Academic Support.



Library
  • Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of library.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of learning resources programs and delivery of services in conjunction with the instructional deans.
  • Collect and disseminate appropriate data, statistics and other records to assess the operation and planning of the library.
  • Serve as liaison between the learning resource center and college.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, code requirements, labor agreements and regulations related to faculty, staff and library and academic support.
  • Develop learning resources center budget and communicate financial needs to the Vice President of Administration and Vice President of Instruction.
  • Faculty/staff deans meeting. Meet with learning resources center faculty and supervisors to review topics concerning student achievement, building layout, schedules, project planning (such as the circulation counter re-design), workload, etc. Hold staff and supervisor meetings to plan for workload in all areas.

Professional Development
  • Chair the activities of a college team to analyze our processes for the professional learning system, its administration and responsibilities with respect to faculty (flex) instructional improvement and professional development.
  • Provide leadership for all aspects of staff and professional learning.

Instruction
  • Working with the Vice President of Instruction develop and implement enrollment management strategies.
  • Work with the Vice President of Instruction and instructional staff on schedule development for campus.
  • Work with faculty and support staff on ensuring the highest quality learning environment is created for students.
  • Oversee and provide leadership for teacher education program, tutoring, honors, instructional design and library.

Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
In compliance with policies adopted by the Board of Trustees, applicants for this position must show evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
  1. Possession of a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution AND one (1) year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's assignment; OR,
  2. Possession of a lifetime California Community College Supervisor Credential AND Two (2) years of recent management experience in an institution of higher education.
Desired Qualifications Three years of increasingly responsible experience reasonably related to the
assignment.
  • An understanding of the teaching/learning process, curriculum, professional development, library, distance education and enrollment management within the context of institutions of higher education.
  • Experience in management of library resources and personnel.
  • Experience with professional development coordination for faculty and staff.
  • Experience with the curriculum development and approval process.
  • Experience with the delivery of Distance Education in higher education.
  • Experience developing and instituting enrollment management strategies.



Knowledge:
