Job Description


RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Sociology, Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies, and Ethnic Studies at Santiago Canyon College seeks equity-minded applicants who will support the department and college in incorporating culturally responsive instruction of the curriculum. The assignment will include working with academic services that support marginalized communities. Santiago Canyon College is a proud Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and serves predominantly historically underrepresented students. Our department is highly collaborative, student centered, focused on equitable teaching and learning strategies, and dedicated to social justice, diversity, inclusion, anti-racism, and Queer allyship.
Successful candidates will teach all assigned classes, which may include face-to-face, online, hybrid, evening, short-term, non-traditional populations, or off-campus assignments unless excused according to Board Policy provisions. Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Assist in maintaining course outlines for each assigned course. Observe the administrative regulations as they appear in the Faculty Handbook (flex calendar obligations, course overviews, etc). Participate in department work, committees, and other activities. Teach a variety of courses/levels within Ethnic Studies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications (Applicants must meet one of the following):
  • Possess from an accredited institution: Master's in African American Studies, Black Studies, Africana Studies, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian American Studies, Native American Studies, or American Indian Studies OR Master's in Ethnic Studies, OR
  • Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR
  • The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form and provide conclusive evidence of such).
Additional Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to using anti-racist and culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy with established course outlines.
  • Evidence of a commitment to working with and supporting marginalized students who have been disproportionately impacted by various systems and institutions.
  • Experience in participating and collaborating in department, and/or college activities.
  • Demonstrated participation in professional development work especially around equity-centered teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with shared governance.
  • Proven work in maintaining current knowledge of Ethnic Studies.
  • Commitment to keeping abreast of legislative changes to the discipline.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and training around effective teaching and learning strategies.
  • Exhibited capability in teaching students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds who have varied identities and varying levels of proficiency.
  • Experience with Student Learning Outcomes assessments.

Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) is one of the most established districts in the state and has been in operation for nearly 50 years. Located in the heart of Orange County, it is one of the largest of California's 72 community college districts, based on the number of credit and non-credit students. Based on the information presented in the application materials, a limited number of candidates with qualifications most pertinent to the position will be invited to participate in the selection process, which may include a written test, teaching demonstration, presentation of sample online unit/module, and an oral interview.
