BUSINESS PATHWAY ADVISOR

Salary Range: $27.73 Hourly
Position Type: Full Time
Category: Education

Description
GRANT FUNDED POSITION

Job Duties:
To support the expanded caseload, the project will hire two Business Pathway Advisors. Reporting to the Dean of Student Success, these positions will supplement, rather than replace, BC's existing advising capacity. This staffing approach will allow Brazosport College to implement caseload advising as currently planned, while also building the specialized recruitment, advising, training, and grant implementation capacity needed to achieve the project's broader goals.
In addition to advising students, the Business Pathway Advisors will have project-specific duties in recruitment, career exploration, and pathway-development, which will distinguish them from BC's existing advisor(s). Early on in Year 1, they will develop processes to identify students who may benefit from entering a business program, reviewing existing student populations to help these students select and declare an appropriate business program of study, document business-specific best practices for career-focused advising with specifics for all three cohorts (e.g., Early Pathway, Advanced Pathway, and Working Professionals). Throughout the project, these positions will support the implementation and evaluation of the project. These activities will build Brazosport College's capacity to support Business students over the three-year grant period, which should allow Student Services to support the business caseload once the project concludes. The Business Pathway Advisor(s) will lead and/or support the following:

  • Provide direct caseload advising and assist with overflow when the volume or needs of students exceed the capacity of the existing advisor staff.
  • Identify all business pathway students at BC, specifically in identification of "missing" business students, such as students in general studies with no declared program of study, transfer-track students, and/or incumbent workers.
  • Develop expertise in the redesigned business pathway, including short-term credentials, certificates, associate degrees, transfer pathways, bachelor-level opportunities, and professional credentials. Subsequently, develop or coordinate professional development and resources for existing advisors and other Student Services staff, particularly in the areas of labor market data integration, career exploration, intentional advising and meaningful conversations, etc.
  • Interface with the Retention Specialist and the Experiential Learning Coordinator to ensure that business students are persisting in their program and receiving career experiences as identified in the student's advising plan.
  • Develop expertise of Career Coach and develop processes to integrate career assessment into advising practices.
  • Serve as liaisons between Faculty, Student Services, and Design and Implementation Teams to ensure advising practices and student-facing resources reflect the redesigned pathway, as needed.
  • Assist with cohort tracking, caseload and advising documentation, student outcome tracking, including wage and occupation information for grant monitoring and reporting.
