Part-Time Digital Literacy Instructor (Non-Credit Instructor)

POSITION: Part-Time Digital Literacy Instructor (Non-Credit Instructor): SNAP Path to Work Program, Center for Adult Education; Lawrence Campus (45 Franklin Street); up to 8 hours/week.

SUMMARY: The Center for Adult Education is seeking a dedicated Digital Literacy Instructor to teach adult learners in a hybrid learning environment. Classes meet online once per week and in person once per week on the Lawrence campus. Instruction utilizes curriculum that focuses on building foundational digital literacy, workplace technology skills, and the confidence needed to navigate today's digital world. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping adult learners develop the technology skills necessary for success in education, employment, and everyday life. Candidates should have experience supporting diverse adult learners and creating accessible, engaging learning experiences that promote student growth and confidence. Non-Credit Instructors are hired on an as-needed basis, with classes scheduled during evening hours.

SCHEDULE: Up to 8 hours per week; hybrid evening instruction (online and in person)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned digital literacy instruction tailored to adult learners' skill levels and needs.
Teach foundational computer skills, internet navigation, email communication, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace basics, workplace technology applications, and digital problem-solving skills.
Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active participation and promotes digital skill development.
Prepare lesson plans that align with appropriate digital literacy competencies and program standards.
Use department-approved instructional materials, such as the Teknimedia online curriculum and Brightspace, to support teaching and learning.
Integrate culturally responsive and accessible instructional practices, strategies, and methodologies to support student engagement and achievement.
Monitor student progress and provide individualized support as needed.
Assess students' digital literacy skills using formal and informal methods and use assessment data to inform and guide instructional decisions.
Provide timely, constructive feedback to support skill development and academic progress.
Maintain and submit accurate records, including attendance, student progress, and completion data.
Ensure student participation in course evaluations, surveys, and other activities that support continuous program improvement.
Participate in classroom observations, welcome constructive feedback, and demonstrate a willingness to refine instructional practices to improve student success.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities to strengthen instructional practice and remain current with best practices in adult education.
Collaborate with program staff to support student retention and success.
Maintain regular communication with Center for Adult Education staff.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Technology, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Applications, Adult Education, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience teaching adults in digital literacy, computer applications, technology, workforce readiness, or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of foundational computer skills, internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications, and other digital technologies used in education and the workplace.
Ability to develop and deliver engaging instruction using a variety of instructional strategies and educational technology.
Ability to work effectively with adult learners from diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Experience using learning management systems, online instructional platforms, and virtual meeting technologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree
Experience teaching digital literacy, computer applications, ESOL, or adult education courses.
Experience working with multilingual learners and students with varying levels of digital proficiency.
Experience teaching in hybrid or online learning environments.
Familiarity with workforce development, career pathways, or employment readiness programs.
Bilingual (Spanish/English)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

All candidates must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Northern Essex Community College does not provide employment-based visa sponsorship.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion and review of a background check which will include CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information).
