Job Description Summary:
The Instructor provides high-quality instruction in design and user experience to active-duty military students, supporting their transition into civilian careers while contributing to curriculum development, student success initiatives, and program advancement.
Job Description:
Supervision Received and Exercised
Reports to the Department Chair. May provide guidance to interns or student workers.
Description of Duties and Tasks
Instruction & Student Learning
- Teach design studio courses to active-duty military students using approved learning outcomes.
- Deliver engaging, experiential instruction tailored to adult learners and military-affiliated students.
- Apply instructional strategies that recognize the unique experiences, structure, and learning styles of military learners.
- Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
- Foster a structured learning environment that supports discipline, collaboration, and career readiness.
- Hold office hours and provide academic support, mentorship, and career transition guidance.
Curriculum Development & Academic Engagement
- Develop and maintain course materials and LMS content aligned with workforce-relevant skills.
- Participate in curriculum alignment and improvement to support military-to-civilian career pathways.
- Support credit articulation efforts and alignment to credit-bearing programs.
Student Success & Engagement
- Monitor student progress and intervene when needed to support persistence and completion.
- Collaborate with program leadership to enhance outcomes for military-affiliated students.
- Support experiential learning opportunities that mirror real-world and defense-related design challenges.
Program Coordination & Service Responsibilities
- Coordinate course logistics and communications for cohorts of military students.
- Support program events, including Design Jam sessions and military cohort engagements.
- Assist with program documentation, reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, including military and workforce organizations.
- Provide guidance to interns or student workers as needed.

Technical & Industry Expertise
- Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom, including Blackboard Ultra.
- Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties.
- Proficiency with design software and tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, or similar).
- Maintains current knowledge of design and UX trends.
- Integrates industry practices relevant to both commercial and government/military environments.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Education:
- Master's degree in a related field.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of industry experience or equivalent.
Preferred Experience:
- Teaching experience in higher education or military training environments.
- Experience working with military or veteran populations.
Work Environment
- Instruction occurs in classroom or studio environments, possibly hybrid, and may involve working with structured military cohorts.
Salary Range (PG 122)
$63,475 - $79,343
