Cabrillo College is accepting applications in order to fill temporary, part-time faculty assignment(s) and to establish an eligibility pool for positions that may become available in 2026 Fall Semester and/or 2027 Spring Semester:
  • N-400 Certified Nursing Assistant
  • N-400L Certified Nursing Assistant Clinical Lab

This associate position is open for application submission through the deadline date as noted above OR until the position has been filled. The location for this position is primarily at our Aptos campus, and are in-person. Assignments may be at various campus locations throughout the county; days, evenings, and/or weekends, and includes driving to various clinical locations as necessary.

About Associate Faculty Requirements: At the time of appointment for this position, Cabrillo College requires employees to maintain residence and permanently reside within the state of California. Candidates must understand when applying that at the time of appointment, they will need to have moved to the State of California (if applicable). Candidates must also understand that Associate Faculty assignments are considered short-term and temporary; employment for this short-term and temporary position may be terminated by the District as permitted by Education Code Section 87665 and the CCFT bargaining unit agreement.

Examples of Duties


  • Teach assigned classes, which may include evening or off-campus assignments.
  • Engage in participatory governance committees, processes, research, service, and initiatives such as Guided Pathways.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Cooperate with and participate as may be required in District investigations and/or student grievance matters of alleged unlawful harassment, discrimination, and retaliation.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
  • Complete required District training such as Title IX, Mandated Reporter, EEO/Diversity/Elimination of Bias, Workplace Safety, etc.


Other CNA Program Specific Duties:
  • Assist in integrating industry and academic standards within curriculum development.
  • Provide group and individual instruction utilizing the most effective teaching strategies.
  • Prepare students for nursing assistance certification exams and future employment.
  • Assist students with the completion of CDPH83B application.
  • Manage the classroom in such a manner as to ensure an environment conducive to learning.
  • Ensure compliance completion for clinical sites.
  • Complete and deliver written records and reports as required, including attendance, makeup work completion, and CDPH required documentation.
    • Demonstrate skills in the clinical setting and have students return demonstrations of all skills noted on CDPH276A
      • Complete documentation of skills performed including successful completion and date
    • Monitor student attendance and provide make up content
      • Makeup hours must be provided at a 1:1 ratio of the exact content missed
      • 16 hours of federally mandated training must be completed before clinical training
  • Participate actively in the subject matter advisory committee.
  • Keep abreast of current practices and training methods.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications


Required Education from a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accredited organization:
  • Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation, of community college students, faculty and staff AND
  • If a conferred degree is other than in nursing, transcripts must be submitted OR if no degree, transcripts of coursework in nursing education or other information verifying nursing education must be submitted

Required Licensure Qualifications:
  • Active nursing license (RN or LVN) in California AND
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience (RN or LVN) with one (1) of the two (2) years being verifiable experience as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care, or other long-term care setting AND must have ONE (1) of the following:
    • Verifiable Completion of a 24-hour course in "Planning, Implementing and Evaluating Educational Programs in Nursing" that satisfies this requirement OR
    • Completion of a course approved by the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) or by an accredited educational institution that satisfies this requirement OR
    • A CA Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) continuing education course certificate used to meet this requirement that must comply with the requirements found in 16 CCR, 1450 et seq. OR
    • Verifiable one (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing OR
  • The equivalent

Required Professional Expertise:
  • Currency and depth of knowledge in the applicable professional field, health education and outreach programming, review and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of programs such as Guided Pathways that address commitment to equity-minded and culturally responsive teaching strategies enhancing student success.
  • Work cooperatively and demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students, administrators, faculty, and staff.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills and effective use of technology.
  • Evidence of professional activities and service beyond primary clinical assignments.

  • Successful online teaching experience


Additional Information


Starting Salary: $1,665 - $2,556 per teaching unit, per semester; salary placement determined by documented education and experience; maximum initial salary step placement on the Associate faculty salary schedule is step 9. An annual doctoral stipend of $111 per unit is granted to eligible associate faculty. Assignments may be at various campus locations; days, evenings, and/or weekends; hours to be arranged.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Faculty employees are required to join the California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) and as such contribute to CalSTRS on a pre-tax basis. Position scheduled to begin at the start of the semester needed, or as needed, pending Governing Board ratification. Salary is subject to proration based on the beginning date of assignment. Cabrillo is unable to sponsor work visas.
