About the Position
The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural competency in serving diverse community college student populations, including those with differing abilities, AB 540 students, DACA recipients, Foreign Residents, VACA participants, Dual Enrollment, and Continuing Education students. They will support RSCCD's mission to promote self-awareness, knowledge, and communication skills, enabling students to participate creatively and confidently in an ever-changing world.

About the Department
The Santa Ana College School of Continuing Education (SCE) ESL Department serves the largest instructional program within SCE, supporting 2,664 FTES, representing 36.7% of the institution's total FTES. The ESL Program recognizes that our students' race, ethnicity, linguistic background, and socioeconomic status provide a rich source of background knowledge and foundational strengths to build mastery of English literacy. Our department offers a comprehensive curriculum, from literacy and foundational communication to college and career pathway courses, including healthcare and workplace English, designed to support adult learners at every stage. With over 29,000 unduplicated students served across 64 sites and a mission centered on equity, cultural affirmation, and access, the ESL Department empowers students to participate fully in their families, workplaces, and communities. General Responsibilities
As English for Work Pathways Coordinator, the faculty member will provide primary leadership in planning, implementing, and continuously improving the English for Work and related career-focused ESL pathways. Core responsibilities include coordinating scheduling and enrollment management; leading pathway development and alignment with vocational/workforce and career education programs; supporting curriculum design and revision; and engaging in data-informed program planning to strengthen student transitions into employment and certificate programs. The coordinator will collaborate closely with Counseling, Career Education, vocational/workforce & Economic Development, and vocational/workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) guidelines to ensure pathways are accessible, coherent, and responsive to labor market needs. Responsibilities also include supporting and onboarding faculty teaching in pathway-aligned courses; strengthening employer and community partnerships; and advancing department and college goals related to equity, student success, and culturally relevant instruction. The faculty coordinator is not required to teach but must have experience teaching noncredit ESL or English for Work courses across instructional modalities and may teach as needed in addition to the full-time coordinating responsibilities; maintain accurate student records; design and update course materials and outlines; and participate in department meetings, committees, and ongoing professional learning activities that enhance the English for Work Pathways. All duties must align with RSCCD Board Policies, the Faculty Handbook, and flex obligations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
(Applicants must meet one of the following):
  • Possess from an accredited institution: (1) A bachelor's degree in teaching English as a second language, or teaching English to speakers of other languages. (2) A bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor. (3) A bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified in subparagraph (2) above; and one year of experience teaching ESL in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching English as a second language, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor. (4) Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL. OR
  • Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR
  • The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form).
AND
  • Candidate must demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff, and the community. Experience in teaching students from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds who have diverse identities and varying levels of proficiency.


Desirable Qualifications
  • M.A./M.S. TESOL or TESL from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in curriculum development, program coordination, or pathway design aligned with noncredit ESL, vocational/workforce, or transition programs, along with demonstrated ability to teach adult English language learners across a wide range of levels and skills-including vocational and workforce preparation-in noncredit, community-based, or open-entry/open-exit environments.
  • Evidence of culturally responsive and equity-minded teaching practices that affirm students' linguistic, racial, and socioeconomic identities.
  • Experience in curriculum development, program coordination, or pathway design aligned with noncredit ESL, vocational/workforce, or transition programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, community partners, and student services to support learner persistence and success.

Foreign Degrees

Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is approved by or a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE), or Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
