POSITION SUMMARY
The Visual and Performing Arts Department at the Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. With a strong foundation in diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as student-centering practices, the V&PA program offers classes and certificates in Art, Graphic Design, Music & Theatre.
We are seeking a qualified art instructor to join our team to teach art courses such as art appreciation, drawing, painting, 2-D and 3-D design.
The successful candidate must embrace and exemplify the college values of respect, collaboration, quality, access, diversity, and inclusion at all levels of engagement. This person must be familiar with the issues facing the art professional today; be skillful in the use of technology in education and in theatrical fields; be fully committed to equity diversity and inclusion; and show passion for teaching and commitment to student success.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instruct in-person Art courses as needed, for the Office of Innovative Arts.
- Participate in on-going professional development.
- Assist with evaluation and selection of textbooks and other resource materials.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Visual & Performing Arts Department Chair and the Dean of Academic Success.
- Provide students with a foundational understanding of the visual arts by engaging them in the analysis, interpretation, and appreciation of artworks across diverse cultures, media, and historical periods.
- Foster visual literacy and critical thinking by guiding students to:
- Analyze works of art from multiple perspectives and contexts.
- Articulate alternate, divergent, or contradictory viewpoints related to artists and artistic movements.
- Evaluate and synthesize evidence from scholarly, historical, and visual sources to support claims about art and artists.
- Interpret meaning, symbolism, and form through application of visual literacy principles.
- Explain and compare artistic media, materials, and techniques.
- Identify major themes, concepts, and stylistic developments within the visual arts.
- Analyze relationships between visual forms, artistic processes, and their historical and cultural contexts.
- Create a learning environment that encourages curiosity, inclusivity, and critical engagement with visual art as a form of human expression.
- Develop and assess course materials, activities, and assignments that support the stated learning outcomes.
- Incorporate diverse artistic traditions and contemporary perspectives that reflect global and multicultural viewpoints.
- Evaluate student progress using clear criteria aligned with course outcomes and provide constructive feedback to support continued growth.
- Participate in and complete course-level assessment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in one of several related degrees listed below. Also allowed, a Master's degree in any field, plus 18 graduate credits in one of the related degrees listed below.

Salary Range: The starting rate is $1,178.00 per credit hour taught.
