Under the direct supervision Dean of the School of Health & Patient Simulation, the preferred candidate will be a self-starter that will contribute and support the SHPS Division. The preferred candidate will assist the Dean of the School of Health & Patient Simulation with the operation and promotion of programs in the School of Health & Patient Simulation. The primary duty of this position is to assist in conducting special projects or activities within SHPS division.

Employees in this classification perform administrative work in an academic environment. The Senior Staff Assistant is responsible for implementing project activities, preparing/processing documentation, answering questions, providing and distributing information, coordinating events/activities, and maintaining records.

REPSONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in conducting a special project or activity pertaining to an assigned department or division (i.e. - performs various administrative tasks associated with assigned project/work activity; answers question relating to area of assignment; implements work activities including registering students for classes.
  • Projects may include but are not limited to: Supporting division personnel with maintaining current curricula or programmatic needs, including: assisting in the preparation of documents for accrediting agencies, acting as a liaison and assisting in logistical planning of accrediting site visits, participating in student orientation, coordinating and assisting with communication between the College and various community agencies, clinic site placements, working in partnership to provide administrative support to Department Chairs and clinical supervisors as needed.
  • Provide technical program information and assistance to administrators, faculty, staff, clinical agencies, and health care facilities to promote programs in the School.
  • Assist in the academic orientation of new faculty and ongoing professional development opportunities for all division faculty.
  • Coordinate and plan School of Health & Patient Simulation events such as SHPS Open House and STCC to Health Science Forum Series.
  • Assist SHPS program chairs with updating and developing articulation agreements between their program and other colleges and universities.
  • Assist in the promotion and marketing of the College and School.
  • Collaborate with the Dean in oversight of catalog changes, brochures, monthly and annual reports, surveys, and other documents as needed.
  • Assign SHPS student advisees to appropriate SHPS faculty advisor.
  • Assist in grant development.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department projects and activities in accordance with established procedures and within designated timeframes.
  • Performs administrative tasks associated with department activities including, but not limited to: proficiently operating a computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data in computer database; verifies accuracy of entered data, and makes corrections; utilizes word processing, spreadsheet, database, desktop publishing, presentation, computerized testing, Internet, e-mail, or other software programs.
  • Collaborate with Admissions, Registrar's Office, and Academic Advising to ensure the seamless transfer of programmatic enrollment needs between departments and the school.
  • Performs database and document development in both Microsoft and Apple platforms including proficiency in: Microsoft excel, powerpoint, publisher, and Apple pages.
  • Participates in meetings and professional development activities (i.e. - maintains a working knowledge of assigned area; maintains current knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws/regulations; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions).
  • Serves as a liaison between the School of Health & Patient Simulation and the workforce development division.
  • Collaborates with the SIMS Medical Center Simulation Coordinator to provide tours and assist in the delivery of simulation experiences when requested and approved by the Dean of SHPS.
  • Performs related duties as directed


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Health Science or other field related to area of assignment.
  • Three (3) years experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, grant administration, budget development, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, general office administration, or personal computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to use information technology effectively.
  • Knowledge of innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current licensure/certification in a health science discipline.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is generally performed in an office setting with comfortable environmental conditions. Work involves a high activity level and pace, and competing time demands. Essential tasks require typing/keyboard skills, phone usage, reading, speaking, and listening. Use office equipment and computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.

Additional Information:
Salary: $56,985 - $68,657 Annually. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience per the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). https://www.mass.edu/forfacstaff/classificationspecs/home.asp
