Job Summary

Responsibilities
1. Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of young students in their groups throughout the session in order to meet the intended outcomes.
  • Assures Youth Theatre students are properly supervised at all times.
  • Apply basic youth development principles such as relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth while working with student actos.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.


2. Develop and implement activities for Youth Theatre students in accordance with the Youth Theatre mission.
  • Teach session electives and activities.
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Consider activities appropriate for individual and group interests and abilities.
3. Maintain high standards of health and safety for Youth Theatre students and staff.
  • Provide care for each Youth Theatre student within your supervision, including recognition of one's own personal health needs.
  • Be alert to Youth Theatre students and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with the Youth Theatre director when appropriate.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure proper utilization, care, and maintenance is adhered to; report necessary repairs promptly to the Youth Theatre director.
  • Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns.
4. Be a role model to Youth Theatre students and staff in your attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example for Youth Theatre students and others including cleanliness, punctuality, personal language, appearance, health habits, and manners.
5. Represent the Youth Theatre when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their Youth Theatre students to have a successful Youth Theatre experience.
  • Follow safety and security protocols when Youth Theatre students are in public while presenting a positive image of the Youth Theatre


Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications
  • Be physically able to accompany the Youth Theatre students to any of the Youth Theatre electives and activities.
  • Be able to communicate verbally with Youth Theatre students and provide instructions.
  • Have visual ability to recognize hazards in any of our buildings as well as physical symptoms of Youth Theatre student injury or illness.
  • Have auditory ability to respond appropriately to hazards and any Youth Theatre student concerns.
  • Be able to observe Youth Theatre student behavior in daily life, to respond verbally to health and safety concerns, and to deal appropriately with any improper behavior.


Preferences
  • Previous experience as a group counselor or staff member in a children's theatre or other youth settings.
  • Desire and ability to work with children in the classroom, rehearsal studio, and on stage..
  • Ability to relate to one's peer group.
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
  • Ability to assist in or teach an activity.
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control.
  • College Sophomore or equivalent, or at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience working with children as a leader or assistant leader.
