Job Description Summary:
The Managing Director of Instructional Operations & Initiatives is a high-impact leadership role that functions as a de facto chief of staff and operational lead in Instruction. Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor of Instruction, this position combines strategic oversight, operational excellence, and executive partnership. The Managing Director will spearhead efforts to understand the needs of ACC's instructional units, streamline operations, anticipate strategic requirements, and lead important initiatives in instruction. Additionally, the role includes chief of staff duties, collaborating with executives and stakeholders on daily operations and strategic initiatives, as well as overseeing budgetary management, compliance, and centralized instructional needs.

This is a senior-level position that requires a high level of leadership and management skills, as well as deep knowledge of andragogy, pedagogy, and best practices in instructional programming. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of leading cross functional teams, implementing innovative instructional initiatives, as well as managing day to day operations. The Managing Director of Instructional Operations and Initiatives primary responsibilities will be to use principles of project management to support strategic planning and initiatives, data engagement, budget development and management, compliance needs, and stakeholder input across Instruction. The Managing Director will be a key member of the leadership team and will play a critical role in delivering on ACC's commitment to student equity and success.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

Strategic Leadership
  • Provide collegewide leadership for the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and continuous evolution of a strategic plan for Instruction.
  • Research and provide guidance on strategic directions for all units under the Vice Chancellor of Instruction and related initiatives and projects, serving as the primary contact for key projects and initiatives within Instruction.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Vice Chancellor of Instruction on matters concerning budget, policy, compliance, and procedures as well as financial, administrative, and operational issues.
  • Foster strong relationships to support the staffing and ongoing effectiveness/improvement of instructional personnel and departments.


Operational Excellence
  • Oversee project management and the coordination of initiatives in alignment with ACC's theory of change, strategic goals, and objectives/key results. Assist with aligning priorities, developing KPIs, and supporting divisions and departments in developing and monitoring leading and lagging indicators.
  • Collaborate with executives and stakeholders on daily operations and strategic projects.
  • Evaluate, manage, and strategically improve budgetary management and practices to ensure alignment of resources and priorities. Exploit cost savings and transfer funds as needed to address various issues as they arise. Develop structures in Instruction to help align budget requests with the instructional and collegewide strategic plan.
  • Oversee compliance with regulatory and statutory needs in instructional units.
  • As assigned, lead and manage centralized instructional needs.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and staff and other institutional constituents to foster a seamless and student-driven academic experience.
  • In conjunction with the VCI, meet regularly with advisory groups; facilitate strong faculty-administration communication; work collaboratively to evolve practices and procedures to support student success.
  • Facilitate and support interactions with interdisciplinary cross-functional college personnel (administrators, faculty, and staff) to support daily operations and special project completion and to effect two-way communication between and among the VCI and all college constituencies.
  • Develop ad hoc work groups as needed; attend meetings as a representative of the VCI as needed; assist with issues pertaining to facilities as needed.


Data-Informed Decisions
  • Catalog, map, and analyze processes and initiatives in Instruction. Gather input from instructional faculty and staff and develop processes to support a continuous flow of information that fosters trust, transparency, caring, and constructive collaboration. Provide support for key initiatives, recommend new initiatives that have potential for scale to support student success, recommend ways to combine redundant initiatives, recommend sunsetting of initiatives that have reached their end of life cycle.
  • In conjunction with the VCI, facilitate data literacy across instructional units to support student success through a variety of means, including consistent engagement with and responsiveness to disaggregated data, as well as predictive analytics.
  • Develop and implement innovative, broad-based, and technology enhanced practices and procedures informed by data to support efficient operations and student-centered decision-making.


Knowledge

  • Higher education administration to include structure, policies, regulations, statutes, and procedures of community colleges.
  • Ongoing awareness of current and emerging trends, innovations, issues, challenges, and opportunities in higher education, especially instructional operations such as curriculum management and new program development.

  • Methodology for analysis and improvement of instructional processes for enhanced efficiency.

  • Ability to develop and analyze reports and statistical data in a variety of mediums.
  • Ability to coordinate and execute results among stakeholders in a remote/hybrid and multi-unit environment.


Required Work Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education.
  • 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Audit and management of regulatory and statutory compliance in higher education.
  • Proven experience in instructional operations or a related field within higher education.


Preferred Work Experience
  • Higher Education and academic experience.
  • Familiarity with Workday and Blackboard.


Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree.


Preferred Education
  • Master's degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Business Administration or a related field.


Special Requirements

Licenses/Certifications; Other
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for travel in the Austin area as required.


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel between campuses as needed
  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

Salary Range

$120,041 - $150,051
