Job Summary
The Utility Technician, Mechanical I reports to the Physical Plant Director and the Lead Technician of Lamar State College Orange. Duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
Duties/Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Troubleshoot and perform general repairs and preventive maintenance on college buildings, vehicles, and electrical and mechanical equipment.
Electrical
- Monitor campus facilities for electrical/lighting needs and repairs.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs on campus electrical systems and equipment.
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor contract work to ensure efficient, quality work.
- Manage shop spare parts inventory requirements
Plumbing
- Monitor campus facilities for plumbing needs and repairs.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and repairs on campus plumbing systems and equipment.
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor contract work to ensure efficient, quality work.
- Manage shop spare parts inventory requirements.
Mechanical/Facilities
- Monitor campus facilities for general facilities repairs, maintenance, and improvements.
- Building envelopes
- Parking lots
- Signage
- Fencing/Storage areas
- Mechanical and Electrical rooms and equipment
- Schedule, coordinate, and monitor contract work to ensure efficient, quality work.
Perform other LSCO Physical Plant Department duties as assigned by the Director of Physical Plant or Lead Technician.
Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of similar equipment in comparable facilities is required.
Supplemental Information
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Professional working knowledge of drywall, painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment troubleshooting and repairs skills.
- Professional working knowledge of power tools, construction and materials handling equipment, construction materials, management methods, and facilities maintenance work.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills:
- The ability to understand and carefully follow oral and written instructions.
- The ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, contractor supervision, and vendor representatives.
- The ability to operate and care for maintenance tools and equipment.
- The ability to perform specific repairs to college buildings, mechanical and electrical equipment.
- The ability to plan and execute preventative maintenance tasks on specific mechanical and electrical equipment.
- The ability to plan, schedule execute and document work using Lamar State College Orange CMMS software, leveraging contractor support when necessary.
- The ability to safely operate equipment such as forklifts, scissor lift, tractor, and similar security machinery.
- Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
Physical Requirements
- Requires constant standing, walking, seeing, pushing, and pulling.
- Requires frequent lifting, stooping, climbing, bending, and carrying objects up to 75 pounds.
- Requires infrequent sitting.
Working Conditions
Environment varies and includes but is not limited to working outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions, working indoors without HVAC, working in attics, working at heights, working in confined spaces, working around noisy machinery and equipment, and working on rooftops.
