Starting salary for this position is: $42.05 - $89.48 per hour based on workload category.
This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. Spokane Colleges reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.
About Us
Spokane Falls Community College (SFCC) is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a part-time adjunct Psychology instructor, housed in the department of Social Sciences. Social Sciences is a large, diverse department with a strong regional reputation for innovation and excellence. There are currently five disciplines in the department: Anthropology, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The department is committed to being an inclusive community that strives for equity and enhancement of the diversity of the College's community and curriculum. This instructor will teach Psychology courses with an emphasis on General Psychology and Lifespan Psychology. We seek applicants with the ability to teach in-person at our Spokane campus as well as online.
SFCC seeks applicants with a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to collaboration, ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner, and experience working with people with diverse backgrounds and academic skills. The college strives for faculty who are subject matter experts and who are also knowledgeable about best practices in course design and delivery, innovative strategies, and instructional technologies that support teaching and learning in various modalities, such as traditional 5 day a week in-person classes, hybrid classes, and online classes.

SFCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise Spokane Colleges. In addition to serving the urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, including students from Fairchild Airforce Base, Spokane Colleges provides educational services to rural communities throughout our 12,302 square-mile region in Eastern Washington, including students from the Spokane and other Eastern Washington tribes.

About the Psychology Instructor - Adjunct - Spokane Falls Community College
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares for and instructs, through a mix of in-person, hybrid and online, transfer-level classes in the discipline of Psychology. Examples of the types of courses typically assigned include: General Psychology or Lifespan Psychology, you may also be asked to assist with the Bachelor of Science degree program's Motivational Psychology course;
- Provides availability and accessibility to students for purpose of academic consulting and support, in a manner appropriate to meet student needs, through a combination of scheduled office hours, e-mail accessibility or other effective means of responsive and timely communication;
- Communicates expectations and establishes clear grading criteria through appropriate instructional means, to include but not limited to developing course syllabi, handouts, and materials supporting the instructional process;
- Evaluates student progress and provides clear, timely feedback;
- Complies with state and federal law applicable to professional duties and responsibilities;
- Follows established procedures in areas such as printing, turning in grades, bookstore orders, office support, student financial aid requirements, safety and health issues and related administrative processes;
- Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions;
- Support and advance the Spokane Colleges' strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- An earned Master's degree in Psychology from an accredited institution with emphasis and concentration in the teaching areas outlined above.
- Previous experience equivalent to one full academic year of teaching.
- Ability to work successfully, equitably, and inclusively with the diverse student body found at a community college.
- Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
- Acceptance of and willingness to support the role that community colleges serve in higher education, and specifically the mission, values, goals and objectives of Spokane Colleges.
- Ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution and the community/technical college system.
- A demonstrated understanding of and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of both the organization and the students we serve.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Additional teaching experience (two or more years).
- Knowledge and/or practice of strategies aimed at improving student success and retention.
- Experience with or interest in academic advising/consultation and supporting Guided Pathways
- Additional graduate work/Ph.D. in Psychology
Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. Benefits Information
Adjunct faculty must work two (2) consecutive quarters at 50% or more of full-time academic load in order to qualify for benefits (based on instructional hours only). Once determined to be eligible, benefits begin on the first day of the month following the beginning of the quarter. Medical, dental, life and long term disability insurance benefits are provided as currently administered under Public Employees Benefits Board; TIAA retirement plan or WA State Retirement Plan; leave accruals and usage are governed by the faculty master contract.
