Job Description Summary
Peralta Community College District seeks a passionate and equity-minded Mental Health Associate/Intern to join our dynamic mental health team. Under the supervision of the Vice President of Student Services or designee, this role offers pre-licensed professionals to provide clinical services to a diverse community college student population. A PCCD licensed, mental health counselor (faculty) will provide weekly clinical supervision. The supervision meets BBS requirements for Associate-level clinicians. Associates will also have access to case consultation, didactic seminars, and ongoing professional development opportunities as part of their clinical training experience.
Associates will support student mental health through individual therapy, case management, outreach, and wellness education.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide short-term individual therapy and psychoeducational services to students.
  • Conduct clinical intakes, risk assessments, and appropriate referrals to on-campus or community services.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of clinical services in accordance with ethical, legal, and institutional standards.
  • Participate in case consultation, staff meetings, and outreach events.
  • Collaborate with staff and faculty to support student mental health needs and promote wellness across campus.
  • Design and facilitate workshops and support groups on topics such as stress management, trauma recovery, and emotional resilience.
  • Engage in culturally responsive practices that affirm the identities of students from diverse racial, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+, disability, and immigrant backgrounds.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of campus-wide wellness initiatives and mental health programming.
  • Follow all ethical and legal guidelines, including confidentiality, mandated reporting, and Board of Behavioral Science (BBS) regulations.
  • Bi-monthly academic student-client assessments will be conducted to evaluate student-clients' academic progress and identify areas where additional mental health support may assist in student retention and matriculation.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from a Master's or Doctoral program in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
  • Must be registered or eligible for registration with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), Associate Clinical Social Worker (ASW), or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Bilingual in English and another language commonly spoken by PCCD students (e.g., Spanish, Mandarin).
  • Experience working with trauma-impacted populations or systems-impacted youth.
  • Knowledge of community mental health resources in Alameda County.
  • Familiarity with telehealth platforms and electronic documentation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering culturally responsive care.
  • Interest in group therapy, expressive arts, or somatic-based interventions.
  • Commitment to serving community college students through a lens of equity, social justice, and inclusion.

Travel expenses for the interview and selection process will be borne by the candidates.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employees must satisfy all pre-employment requirements to work for the District which include, but are not limited to, the following items:

REQUIRED FOR ALL EMPLOYEES

Tuberculosis Examination: Prior to employment, the successful candidate will be required to submit evidence (either skin test or X-ray report) of being free of tuberculosis within the past sixty (60) days. The TB test is a condition of employment and any expense must be borne by the successful candidate.

Fingerprinting Requirement: As a condition of employment, all employees working for community colleges in the State of California are required to be fingerprinted within the first ten (10) working days of the date of employment pursuant to Education Code Section 88024.

Immigration Requirement: According to the Immigration Reform and Control Act, the Peralta Community College District is required to verify that all new employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.

All new employees are required to complete and sign a verification form and provide documentation attesting that he/she is legally authorized to work in the United States.

District Policy: A Social Security Card will be required following selection and prior to completion of the hiring process. The employment process cannot be completed without a copy of the Social Security Card on file in the Office of Human Resources.

Medical Examination: Under state regulations and as a condition of employment, certain positions may require a medical examination prior to employment. Expenses incurred will be borne by the employee.
