Assistant Professor of Recording Technology, Tenure Track

Faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work as well as work associated with the School of Liberal Arts and GRCC as a whole. In addition to the major position responsibilities, faculty are expected to demonstrate outstanding communication skills, collaborate effectively, use personal initiative to overcome obstacles, and work efficiently to meet deadlines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Teach music production courses from beginning to advanced including Studio Techniques, Live Sound Reinforcement, and MIDI Sequencing.
- Work with the Music Department Program Director to oversee and coordinate programs in Recording Technology, Music and Entertainment Business, and the Digital Audio Specialist Certificate.
- Serve on the Music Industry Advisory Board.
- Administer and manage music technology labs, recording studio, and equipment.
- Actively participate in the review and revision of current music industry programs, catalogs, curriculum, and courses.
- Design and develop curriculum, programs, and certificates in Music Technology and Production to meet workforce demands and student needs.
- Advise students in the Music Technology and Production programs.
- Engage in professional development activities to maintain expertise in all aspects of sound engineering and music production.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies and incorporate them into the curriculum and classroom.
- Develop and maintain relationships with Music Industry community partners and K-12 programs.
- Participate fully as a member of the Music Department in activities such as department meetings, committee membership, textbook selection, jury assessments, and other duties as expected of a tenure-track faculty member and/or as determined by the College.
- Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Educational Credentials
- Bachelor's Degree in music plus 8 years professional experience in the sound engineering/music recording field required.
- Industry credentials and membership in professional organizations i.e. AVID Certified Instructor, AES membership, DANTE certification or equivalent.
- Master's Degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Work Experience
- At least 8 years of demonstrated professional experience in audio engineering, recording, mixing, mastering and MIDI sequencing.
- Evidence of successful experience teaching music recording, technology, and production at the college level.
Skills
- Expert level knowledge and mastery of industry standard music recording and production equipment, hardware, digital audio workstations, software and plug-ins used in the field.
- Proficiency in Digital Workstations including but not limited to: Pro Tools, Logic Pro, & Reaper.
- Proficiency in video recording and editing.
- Experience with Yamaha DM7, AVID S4, Allen Heath Console, and other current audio consoles.
- MIDI Sequencing experience in an appropriate DAW
- Experience with acoustics and audio signal processing.
- Experience with all professional level studio microphones and equipment
- Experience with electronics repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience with digital and analog audio recording equipment.
- Proficient piano skills
- Demonstrate knowledge of Live Sound systems considerations, setups, signal flow, and applications.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the basic operations of the Live Sound Mixing Console as it pertains to Front of House mixing and Monitor Mixing.
- Experience with stereo and surround sound microphone techniques.
- Experience with Audio for Video, Mastering, Film Sound, and Surround Sound using Dolby Atmos
- Commercial AV production experience
Physical Demands
- This position requires long periods of sitting, standing, reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
