Salary Range: $20.09 - $26.74

Starting salary for this position is: $20.09 (Hourly)

Employees hired at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter. An employee hired at anything higher than the entry step of the range will have salary step advancement after 12 months and every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range. Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase.

About the Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 1 - Environment/Science Classroom Support

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision of the Health and Environmental Sciences Office Manager and with direction from program faculty, the Instruction & Classroom Support Technician plays a crucial role in supporting the educational process by providing technical assistance and resources for laboratory and lecture environments. This position is responsible for ensuring that all instructional equipment and materials are properly maintained, organized, and available for faculty and students. The Instructional Technician collaborates with faculty to enhance the learning experience through effective use of equipment, technology, and instructional resources.

This is a non-permanent, hourly position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instructional technologies used in classrooms and labs.
  • Technical Support: Aid faculty and students during lectures and lab sessions to ensure smooth operation of all instructional tools.
  • Resource Coordination: Assist in the preparation and distribution of instructional materials, including lab supplies, handouts, and digital resources.
  • Training and Development: May help with training for students on the effective use of lab equipment and educational technologies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with faculty to identify needs for instructional materials and technologies that support curriculum goals.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, ensuring all items are accounted for and in good working condition.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure that all lab activities comply with safety regulations and best practices to provide a safe learning environment.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the Spokane College strategic plan, and perform all related duties as required. *

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree or Associate of Applied Science degree. Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • General Background in Environmental Sciences.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Environment
  • Work is performed primarily in a lab/shop environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.
  • Work is occasionally performed outdoors in uncontrolled elements.
  • Work is equally performed in an indoor office environment, and outdoors in uncontrolled elements.

Activity and strength
  • Work is active.
  • Work requires long periods of standing and walking.
  • Move up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
  • Occasional to frequent change in position from sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Occasional to frequent kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • Occasional to frequent repetitive reaching, grabbing, and stretching.

Technology and tools
  • May be asked to operate and control power tools and/or large mechanized, powered and non-powered equipment.

Customer service
  • Work directly with faculty/students.

Hazards
  • Must be able to read and understand instructions to recognize and handle hazardous, unsafe or poisonous materials.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, and odors.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Non-permanent, hourly position.
  • Work schedule will be determined by the supervisor in cooperation with faculty.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • This position is eligible for coverage under a collective bargaining agreement. Membership is optional.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa. In addition, the Spokane Colleges maintain a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles. Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. (For positions that are less than full time, leave accruals will be prorated to the percentage of the position.) This position is designated a bargaining unit position and union membership is not a condition of employment. Leave accruals and usage are governed by the WFSE collective bargaining agreement.
