Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) is one of the most established districts in the state and has been in operation for nearly 50 years. Located in the heart of Orange County, it is one of the largest of California's 72 community college districts, based on the number of credit and non-credit students. About the Position
The ideal candidate will demonstrate cultural competency in serving diverse community college student populations, including those with differing abilities, AB 540 students, DACA recipients, Foreign Residents, VACA participants, Dual Enrollment, and Continuing Education students. They will support RSCCD's mission to promote self-awareness, knowledge, and communication skills, enabling students to participate creatively and confidently in an ever-changing world.
Candidates will cultivate an inclusive classroom culture that engages and supports a diverse student population. They should effectively teach students from varied ethnic, racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, including those with disabilities or differing academic preparation levels. About the Department
The Santa Ana College Dance Department offers a comprehensive A.A. Degree in Dance along with five specialized certificates: Dance, Introduction to Commercial Dance I, Introduction to Commercial Dance II, Commercial Dance, and Screendance. With more than 70 courses across a broad range of dance disciplines, our curriculum provides both breadth and depth. Academic survey courses include Dance History & Appreciation, Dance as Communication, World Dance & Cultures, and History & Appreciation of Screendance. Our program emphasizes hands-on learning through concert performance, production work, choreography, somatic practices, and a variety of studio techniques. The department is committed to delivering excellence in technical training, performance, choreography, and production management. Our goal is to prepare students for success in auditions for major dance programs, public performance opportunities, employment with dance companies and production teams, and careers as instructors and choreographers within the dance industry.

About the College

Santa Ana College (SAC), founded in 1915, serves more than 70,000 students yearly. At present, SAC students can work toward completing an associate degree, university transfer, career/workforce training or a bachelor's degree. As part of Santa Ana College, the School of Continuing Education located at Centennial Education Center offers free classes throughout the community for adults of all ages and academic backgrounds. Santa Ana College is an award-winning college and was recently ranked as one of the nation's top two-year colleges awarding associate degrees to Latino and Asian students and named one of the best community colleges in California by Intelligent.com. The college is also recognized throughout the state for its comprehensive workforce training programs for nurses, firefighters, law enforcement and medical personnel. Santa Ana College is one of two comprehensive colleges under the auspices of the Rancho Santiago Community College District.

General Responsibilities
Full-time tenure track faculty teaching for RSCCCD will teach all assigned classes in range of modalities, including face-to-face, online, and hybrid, and may include evening or off-campus assignments unless excused according to Board Policy provisions. Will teach a variety of courses/levels within the discipline/area of study. Faculty shall assist in maintaining the course outline for each assigned course. Faculty shall maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress. Candidates shall participate in curriculum and program development. Candidates shall participate in student learning outcomes and assessment, as well as program review. Be familiar with and observe the administrative regulations (flex calendar obligations, course overviews, etc.). Faculty shall participate in department meetings and activities and will serve on shared governance committee(s).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications
(Applicants must meet one of the following):
  • Possess from an accredited institution: A master's degree in Master's in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis, OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in physical education, any life science, physiology, theater arts, kinesiology, humanities, performing arts or music OR
  • Possess a valid California Community College credential authorizing service in the discipline, OR
  • The equivalent (applicants who do not meet the above minimum qualifications must complete the Equivalencies Section in the application form).
    • Equivalencies that the Department accepts as valid: (a) Master's degree with an emphasis in any one of the following areas: dance, dance techniques, dance performance, performing arts, theoretical studies, dance education, dance history, ethnic and folk dance forms, world dance and cultures, dance communication, somatic practices in dance, commercial dance forms, social and ballroom dance forms, performance studies, choreography, dance fitness, sports psychology, dance science, dance kinesiology, kinesiology and exercise science, dance physical therapy, dance therapy, somatic practices, dance methodology and pedagogy, dance and technology, screendance, dance production, dance costume design, dance and theatre technical/stage/light design, musical theatre, theatre with dance emphasis, physical education with dance emphasis, dance entrepreneur, dance and media marketing, dance studio management, dance critic, or any other dance-related emphasis OR (b) An earned bachelor's degree in any one of the areas listed in (a) AND a master's degree with minimum of 12 units of graduate level coursework in any of the areas listed in (a) OR (c) Master's degree in any discipline AND documentation of a career as a professional performing dancer and/or choreographer, including a sustained schedule of performances and associations with other professional performers and documentation of teaching experience in related subject matter.
AND
  • Candidate must demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and the community. Experience in teaching student from diverse ethnic socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds who have diverse identities and varying levels of proficiency.


Additional Qualifications
  • Ability to teach all foundational dance courses: Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and Choreography/Composition
  • Minimum of one or more years of community college teaching experience with a record of successful instruction across diverse modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous online, and/or asynchronous online), with a commitment to equitable, inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy.


Desirable Qualifications
  • Teach a range of dance techniques, composition, and theory courses; demonstrate expertise in one or more areas such as Commercial Dance, Contemporary Dance, Hip Hop, and/or Musical Theatre.
  • Recruit and engage prospective students; support outreach initiatives, dual-enrollment programs, and pathway development; contribute to departmental and institutional service, community engagement, and shared governance.
  • Ability to produce and/or direct student and faculty dance concerts, including choreography, staging, and production oversight; mentor students in choreographic projects and program events.
  • Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with dance companies, studios, organizations, and community partners; foster interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement; coordinate student internships to support workforce development.
  • Participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning outcomes, and departmental initiatives; demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines collaboratively.

Transcripts from countries other than the United States must be evaluated by an agency that is approved by or a member of the National Association of Credentials Evaluation Service (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE), or Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).
