The Success Coach (Community/Outreach Counselor) provides advising, coaching, and support services for students who may be at risk for persistence and completion. This position provides academic advising and coaching, conducts student needs assessments, assists students in navigating college processes, and coordinates workshops and educational activities. The Success Coach is a highly collaborative position that supports an assigned caseload of students, responds to academic alerts and reports, develops academic success plans and refers students to appropriate support services and resources.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Support and assigned caseload of students who are at risk for persistence and completion, which includes developing individualized success plans in collaboration with students.
  • Regularly review and respond to academic reports, including early alerts, mid-term grades, etc Conducts ongoing proactive outreach to students at risk for persistence and completion.
  • Provides academic advising and course selection and registration assistance to an assigned caseload. Provides registration assistance during peak registration periods.
  • Respond to requests for academic assistance, including making appointments, managing tutor and success coach requests, etc.
  • Maintain accurate records, document outreach and analyze data on student success metrics (persistence, GPA, probation recovery) to inform programming, contribute to reports, and enhance outreach strategies.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison to assigned academic programs to collaborate on student outreach and support. Collaborate to identify at-risk students, develop intervention strategies, and share updates on student engagement and recovery progress.
  • Provide support in both student services and academic areas and make referrals to key student services such as advising, counseling, wraparound support, financial aid, etc.
  • Serve as a member of the Academic Review Board.
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of success-focused workshops, outreach and educational activities focused on areas such as academic goal setting, academic recovery, effective study strategies, time management, campus resource referrals and connections, etc.
  • Participates in outreach campaigns and events to support prospective, current, and returning students.
  • Support the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of assigned tutors.
  • Performs miscellaneous tasks (i.e. - schedules student appointments; answers telephone calls; types forms/documents; copies documents; file documentation; processes outgoing mail; provides backup coverage for other positions).
  • Participates in college, division, and department meetings, events, and training as recommended and approved by supervisor.
  • Conduct exit and re-engagement outreach to students who withdraw or stop out, assisting them with re-entry and re-enrollment planning.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, college committees, work groups, task forces, and other professional organizations as approved by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, which do not alter the basic level of the position.


Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, psychology, social work, or a closely related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience and/or training involving academic advising, student coaching, or educational support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse and underrepresented student populations.
  • Proven skills in building rapport, motivating students, and promoting self-efficacy.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain detailed records.
  • Proficiency in technology tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and student information or early alert systems (e.g., ARIES, Navigate, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of enrollment, advising, and academic processes, or the ability to quickly learn those processes.

Additional Information:
