General Statement:

Provide support to the Office of Career and Transfer Services, including Credit for Prior Learning, by sharing working knowledge of the labor market, career and transfer resources, and QCC's programs to support individuals in identifying academic/career and transfer pathways and implementing a plan to achieve identified goals.

Supervision Received

Reports to the Director of Foundational Excellence and Student Development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides career- and transfer-related services with specialized strategies to help students, alumni, and entering student applicants select a career and/or an academic pathway and implement a plan to achieve their identified goals including graduation, transfer, and/or entering the workforce. Services are delivered by appointment and drop-in, as well as to individuals or groups.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and best practices to implement programmatic change, as appropriate.
  • Review college transcripts, choice of major, career goals, and overall progress towards goals. Provide information regarding course and degree requirements at QCC and receiving four-year institutions.
  • Maintains expertise regarding course and QCC program/credential transferability, career and transfer resources, labor market information, special initiatives, and relevant services to support students, alumni, prospective students, faculty, and staff to make informed decisions regarding career pathways and corresponding educational options.
  • Documents all customer contacts in database (EAB NAVIGATE).
  • Ability to train and support others in use of career and transfer-related, and Credit for Prior Learning technologies, such as Handshake, Career Coach, My Experience Counts, and others.
  • Applies specialized career coaching expertise to meet the unique needs of identified populations, such as veterans, students with disabilities, and individuals with background challenges (incarceration, felony, lengthy employment gaps, etc.), limited career-related awareness, and/or re-careering for various other reasons.
  • Supports student acquisition of personal effectiveness competencies (soft skills) through individual coaching and workshops and collaboration with faculty.
  • Provides students access to career assessment instruments to help determine majors and career paths.
  • Trains and supports the College community in areas related to career and transfer including the use of labor market information, program maps, job-search tools, cover and application letter, networking, resume writing, portfolio development, social media, interviewing, and other applicable areas.
  • Creates, coordinates, and delivers workshops and presentations aimed at supporting students' career and transfer pathway exploration and attainment.
  • Supports Career and Transfer Services team with local and state campus events. Serves as on campus liaison hosting fairs (exploration, employment, and transfer), recruitment visitors (universities, colleges, employers, and special interest groups such as Chambers of Commerce and professional associations), and other initiatives such as academies (transfer, engineering, etc.).
  • Supports career-related learning for students participating in volunteer work and various other student employment settings such as internships and student jobs acquired for college persistence purposes.
  • Assists students with preparation form, and execution of, university transfer and job search.
  • Collects data and ensures proper tracking is in place for all initiatives, events, and activities, including data entry for future analysis and district service planning. Reviews evaluations/feedback and makes recommendations for continuous improvement in Credit for Prior Learning, career and transfer services, and resources.
  • May represent career and/or transfer services on College committees and work groups as assigned by supervisor.
  • Support the office with the preparation and organization of Articulation Agreements and Transfer Guides.
  • Travel to off-site locations (local and regional organizations) is required for this position.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Career Services with the processes and policies associated with Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), with a focus on working with students to award credit for prior learning through competency/challenge examinations and alternative options for credit, such as awarding credit/course equivalencies for industry-recognized credentials, and for workforce development/non-credit training programs.
  • Review student applications on the statewide CPL website, process their request for credit and communicate with area Coordinators / Deans on the awarding of credit.
  • Initiates contact with faculty and/or staff to provide appropriate recommendations and guidelines for students interested in earning college credit through CPL options
  • Provides one-on-one and group instruction to students interested in developing portfolios to ensure appropriate, accurate documentation and consistency
  • Ensures that eligibility requirements are met and initiates accurate paperwork for CPL options, such as credentialing, competency exams and portfolio development
  • Review and evaluate military trainings and experiences for college credit
  • Review Advanced Placement (AP), CLEP and DSST transcripts, process credit and enter data into statewide CPL database.
  • Attends monthly Community College statewide CPL meetings.
  • Create student CPL documents, keep updated records, and create regular reports.
  • Additional weekday and weekend hours may be required to meet student needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Education, Higher Education, Counseling, Psychology, Business, or closely related field; with 3-5 years of experience and/or training that includes career development, transfer services, academic advisement, or program/project management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidate; Spanish language fluency preferred.
  • Demonstrated passion for working with multicultural communities.
  • Experience using student information systems such as Banner, Jenzabar, or Colleague.
  • Experience with general student support services programs.
  • Experience providing support services and/or working on retention and success initiatives.
  • Experience working at a comprehensive community college.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, and with preparing and giving presentations to audiences of various sizes.
