IT Solutions Architect

Job Description Summary:
The IT Solutions Architect is typically engaged as the highest-level technology expert across one or more architecture domains such as business, data, application, and technology. This role will be responsible for analyzing and translating business, information and technical requirements into an architectural design that outlines solutions to achieve business objectives following enterprise architecture principles and standards. This may include creating prototypes and proofs of concept to help define requirements. The architect will recommend implementations that are scalable, sustainable, and add value. The IT Solutions Architect will also need to be business-oriented and results-focused, helping the college to enhance its operations through the implementation of technical solutions.
The IT Solutions architect must have specific expertise in one vertical (domain) of The Open Group Architecture Framework but will work across domains at times.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks
  • Designs technical solutions and leads the implementation of a solutions architecture across a group of specific business applications or technologies, based on enterprise business strategy, business capabilities and business requirements.
  • Understands business drivers and business capabilities (future and current state), and determines corresponding enterprise system designs and change requirements to drive the organization's targeted business outcomes.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining current and future state documentation including architecture diagrams.
  • Provides consulting support to project teams to ensure architecture is aligned with the overall enterprise architecture.
  • Understands technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models.
  • Creates and/or proposes changes in process, policy and standards as they relate to the architecture and design principles.
  • Other duties and responsibilities depending on the business needs.


Knowledge
  • Knowledge of all components of enterprise technical architecture.
  • Knowledge of the Open Group Architecture Framework.
  • Excellent understanding of application development methodologies, infrastructure, cloud, and network architectures.
  • Understanding of the enterprise's political climate and how to navigate stakeholders.

Technology Skills
  • Advanced skill and experience in one or more Open Group Framework architecture domain.
  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Use architecture modeling software.


Required Work Experience
  • Five (5) years related work experience.


Preferred Work Experience
  • Seven (7) years working as a solutions or enterprise architect on business, application, data, and technology domain related solutions along with 5 or more years application development experience.
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible IT experience, with sensitivity and commitment to business problem solving.


Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Additional work experience as a senior technologist showing expertise in a specific technology vertical may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems (IS), Computer Science or related field, or equivalent related IT experience.


Special Requirements
  • Reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.


Other Preferred Qualifications
  • TOGAF certification preferred.
  • ITIL Certification preferred.


Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.

Salary Range

$99,155 - $123,943
