GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Center for Access Services (CAS) is dedicated to helping students overcome non-academic barriers impacting their ability to persist in their education journey. By increasing self-sufficiency through direct support and resource referrals, CAS aims to support college efforts to improve completion and graduation rates. CAS works to address food insecurity, including the management and operation of The Ram Mini Mart, an on-campus food pantry to help students with supplemental groceries, personal hygiene products, and other basic necessities. Reporting to the Nutrition Education and Food Pantry Manager, the Food Pantry Assistant assists in the daily operations of the Ram Mini Mart, food security/hunger awareness initiatives and events, and nutrition education. This is an action-level position that involves planning, implementing, and assessing food security strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the daily operations of the food pantry and all food insecurity/hunger awareness initiatives and events. This includes, but is not limited to: inventory and stocking, picking-up and receiveing food orders, processing and packing student orders, collection and reporting of data, event preparation, etc.
- Adhere to safe food handling and storage practices and maintain clean, organized food pantry storage areas and equipment.
- Work closely with CAS staff and utilize department software(s) and systems to manage and maintain accurate records/data pertaining to the food pantry usage and all food security programs/initiatives, including student records.
- Utilize campus vehicle to retrieve food orders/donations and deliver them to the college, while adhering to safe driving protocols.
- Draft monthly, semester, and/or annual reports on program usage, event/initiative assessment and opportunities for improvement.
- Stays current on best practices of food pantry management, food safety, and food security and applies these principles.
- Manage a high volume of incoming referrals while maintaining patience and a heightened level of professionalism and customer service.
- Participates in meetings, college committees, and professional development activities as assigned.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those listed above, which do not alter the basic level of the position.
Job Requirements:
- An Associates degree required.
- Demonstrated experience in food pantry operations, record keeping, customer service, and/or higher education.
- Knowledge of confidentiality laws/policies and experience working with sensitive/confidential information.
- Knowledge and experience of laws/policies pertaining to food safety standards, preferred.
- Ability to become ServSafe certified upon hire.
- Ability to operate a medium to large-sized vehicle (i.e., panel van).
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to lift medium to heavy objects.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and to follow oral and written directions.
- A working knowledge of database applications and software.
- Strong computer skills are required.
- Experience working with a diverse population and promoting cultural acceptance and respect, with a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Successful candidates should have strong communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrate strong organization skills, be detail oriented, and be good with the public.

Additional Information:
Work Schedule: 45 week position with 7 weeks off throughout the year. Weekly hours may vary by academic season and operational needs. May occasionally require work in the evenings and/or weeks.
Salary: $18 per hour, up to 18.5 hours per week
