Job Summary/Basic Function:
Reports to the Director of Counseling and Testing and is responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Assess the mental health needs of the student population.
  • Provides crisis intervention, counseling and make appropriate campus and community referrals.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students during peak advising times, both online and in person, assisting with course selection and academic planning
  • Will serve on the CARE Team and perform risk assessments.
  • Collaborate with college administration, faculty, and staff to develop and conduct a comprehensive a mental health plan for students.
  • Design and implement a mental health plan and programming, including workshops and support groups to promote mental wellness and resilience for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Works with students to address personal and academic challenges and makes referrals for other support services.
  • Maintains a broad range of community contacts and available resources and services.
  • Utilizes knowledge of all aspects of in-person and online education to provide effective counseling and direction with the primary objective of student success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    The minimum qualifications for this position are: Master's degree or higher in counseling, social-work, counseling/clinical psychology or other related mental health field, where a clinical or counseling practicum or internship experience was a degree requirement. Texas State licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Psychology Associate (LPA), or equivalent certification. Demonstrated evidence of counseling experience preferred, strong technical skills and computer proficiency. Experience in working with diverse populations and providing counseling services, preferably in a higher education setting. Knowledge of counseling theories, techniques, and ethical guidelines. Excellent organizational skills. Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

    Able to traverse campus, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, vision, hearing, and talking; ability to drive to off campus locations as needed;
