Adjunct Instructor positions are part-time, semester-to-semester, non-benefited MCCC/MTA/DCE unit positions. This posting is for a candidate pool for anticipated vacancies for the 2024-2025 school year.

Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the position of Mechanical Engineering Technology Adjunct Professor. Working with and under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), this adjunct is responsible for supporting and enhancing the College's Mechanical Engineering Technology Program.

Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) focuses on hands-on applications of engineering principles of design, manufacturing, and quality. The program includes Certificates of Completion that can be completed in approximately one year and A.S. degree programs designed to be completed in two years (based on full time student status).

MET is less theory-based than traditional 4-year Mechanical Engineering programs and relies heavily on milling and turning skills (HAAS), 3D CAD modeling (i.e., SolidWorks), CAM, and CMM software packages. Qualified applicants will be familiar with ASME Y14.5 standards, as viewed from design, manufacturing, and precision inspection viewpoints and capable of setting up and operating multi-axes mills and lathes. The ideal candidate works together with all faculty and staff to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in which all can succeed.

Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM, the adjunct Professor of Mechanical Engineering Technology will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

  • Applying GD&T to blueprints.
  • Inspecting precision parts with tolerances as small as +/- .001.
  • Inspecting precision parts that have GD&T requirements using manual gauges.
  • Inspecting precision parts that have GD&T requirements using Coordinate Measuring Machines.

Leadership and Management:

  • Ensures that student learning outcomes for courses and the program are current and assessed regularly, documenting the process, and submitting appropriate information to the Dean.

Teaching:
  • Teaching introductory and advanced Mechanical Engineering Technology courses to students from a diverse cultural and educational background.
  • The successful candidate understands that students learn in different ways due to their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and provides numerous teaching techniques, such as lecture, small group work, and the use of technology to reach all students.
  • Supervises students in both classroom and laboratory settings including the preparation of assignments and equipment for lectures and laboratory exercises.
  • Advises and registers students every semester. Helps students develop educational plans that lead to retention and completion.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Candidates need to be proficient using online teaching tools like Google meet and zoom.
  • The ideal candidate will comply with, exemplify, and promote existing lab safety procedures and processes.

Facilities:
