Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the position of HIT Adjunct Faculty. Working with and under the supervision of the HIT Program Coordinator and Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation, this adjunct faculty is responsible for planning and delivering instruction to a diverse population of students for our Health Information Technology students. Courses available at this time include: HIT 110, Office Basics.

Student learning is supported through the integration of lectures, labs, videos, media, a review of articles, and the use of patient simulation. The candidate must be competent to deliver a broad scope of understanding of diverse healthcare settings and practice and have documented expertise in healthcare. This position requires content delivery through various methods including in-person, hybrid and distance learning.

SAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under the supervision of the HIT Program Coordinator and the Dean of the SHPS, the HIT adjunct faculty member will demonstrate excellence in the following areas:

Leadership and Management:
  • Create an effective, engaged, and vibrant online learning community by maintaining a meaningful active presence in courses.
  • Be familiar with the learning management system and all support services available to students.
  • Actively teach the online course, including prompt course-related communication, timely grading, and office hours.
  • Work collaboratively with the Program Coordinator for program assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student success by supporting college engagement and retention initiatives.
  • Participate in program and curriculum development as needed for assigned courses.
  • Engage in a process of formative and summative course evaluation to enhance the student learning experience.

Teaching & Assessment:
  • In conjunction with the Program Coordinator, assesses student progress toward program goals which are consistent with the College's Student Success Plan and the College's mission.
  • Ensures that student learning outcomes for courses are current and assessed regularly, documenting the process and submitting appropriate information to the Program Coordinator and Dean as requested.
  • Teaches didactic education components of HIT courses to students from a diverse cultural and educational background.
  • Evaluates student academic performance in line with department policies and procedures.
  • Provides guidance to students in their learning and educational planning.

Personnel:
  • Participates in campus/off-campus events and professional development activities.
  • Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement.

Facilities:
  • Ensures utilization and proper maintenance of specialized learning equipment and materials for safe education.

Fiscal:
  • Forwards recommendations on instructional supply and equipment needs to the Program Coordinator.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Serves on college committees and task forces.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or related field.
  • Current RHIT credential. Other relevant credentials favorably considered.
  • At least five years of coding and/or revenue cycle work experience in healthcare settings.
  • Previous online teaching experience, preferably in healthcare or related fields.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA privacy standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree preferred.
