Student Support Services Specialist

Description of Position
Under the direction of the Provost, COS Tulare Center, the Student Support Services Specialist will perform a variety of specialized duties related to the, planning, and implementation of the assessment, orientation, and matriculation programs in support of student success. This will include, but is not limited to: planning and implementation of program activities and providing students with related information.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination equivalent to:
Completion of two years of college-level course level
training and
two years of increasingly responsible business/office
experience

Desirable Qualifications
Basic knowledge of agriculture or an educational background in agricultural education/communications

Licenses and Other Requirements
Valid California driver's license.
An incumbent must be insurable at the "standard rate" by the employer's insurance carrier at all times while employed in this classification by the College of the Sequoias.

Representative Duties
Prepare and edit a wide variety of materials such as correspondence, reports, forms, applications, flyers, brochures, memoranda and other documents.
Plan, organize and deliver on and off campus activities and programs to provide information and assistance to students regarding academic and financial support services.
Provide and maintain accurate information about educational and student support programs of the college; distribute information to students and public via webpage, newsletters, flyers, brochures, posters, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
Plan, coordinate and conduct tours of the TCC campus, including the farm, shops and agriculture instructional areas.
Maintain regular contact with students to address and assist with problem solving; update student's files as necessary.
Prepare and disseminate information, applications, and other program related documentation/items to students.
Establish professional contacts with colleagues at high schools, community services agencies, and other educational agencies to assist with student success and retention.
Attend staff meetings, conferences, and seminars to maintain current knowledge regarding program eligibility requirements, regulations and District policies.
Utilize the District's integrated software in performing the required duties of the position.
Prepare memoranda independently and from oral instructions.
Collaborate and coordinate with the College community and appropriate staff to develop and implement orientation strategies required for matriculation.
Plan, organize, and administer computerized and traditional pencil and paper assessment testing both on and off campus to large groups or on an individual basis, assist in the development of test schedules, assist students with proper test selection and monitor test site for appropriate testing atmosphere.
Troubleshoot computer hardware and software for computerized assessment and placement program.
Scan paper and pencil test results on a microcomputer based scanner program. Utilize a computerized data base program to process both the paper and pencil test results and the computerized test results to ensure accuracy of students' demographic data and testing data before posting to the college's student information system for retrieval by counselor, advisors, and other staff; provide test results to students.
Assist with the assessment program on and off District sites.
Establish and maintain relationships with staff and District feeder high schools to implement the goals of the Student Support Services Program.
Maintain proper testing environment both on and off site.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
Salary is at Range 32 ($41,952 annually) ($20.17 hourly)
Initial placement on step AA
Salary increase after 6 months of satisfactory service;
increases annually thereafter.
Minimum 5% increase if promoted.
10-working month probationary period.
Union membership upon employment.
PERS Retirement.

and dependents.
Employee life insurance ($100,000) is provided.

Screening Procedure
Only complete application packages will be evaluated by a qualified screening committee as soon as possible after the closing date. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not assure the candidate an interview. Application materials will be screened to determine the extent to which they meet the Representative Duties. A selected group of candidates will be invited for oral interviews. After initial interviews, finalists may be asked to return for a second interview.
All costs incurred as a result of the application/selection process shall be borne by the candidate.
