Job Description:


STCC is seeking two (2) part-time SUCCESS Navigators for the Aspire program, which seeks to increase and improve the access, retention and completion rates of underrepresented students at STCC. Reporting to the Multicultural Affairs Operations Manager, the SUCCESS Navigator plays a significant role in supporting the Aspire program, which is designed to provide an inclusive environment where students receive academic and social-emotional support through mentoring, intercultural experiences, leadership development, and community engagement opportunities.

Responsibilities (Include but not limited to):
  • Serve as a Navigator for program participants; meet one-on-one with students twice a month;
  • Assist students with locating support resources; and scheduling monthly activities that are of interest to the students;
  • Ensure that the students are prepared for classes (textbooks, syllabus, etc.);
  • Encourage students to meet with their professors and assigned academic advisor before registration;
  • Be aware of scholarships, grants, and the financial aid process to encourage students to apply.
  • Promote students forming study groups with peers;
  • Promote students exploring and participating in various clubs on campus;
  • Help coordinate Aspire meetings;
  • Recommend and assist in activities and securing speakers series throughout the academic year;
  • Maintain an Aspire interest and communication list;
  • Communicate regularly with Aspire participants to inform them of planned events, activities and engagement opportunities.
  • Provide a bi-monthly status report to the Multicultural Affairs Operations Manager including an overview of students served and suggestions for areas requiring improvement;
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those listed above which do not alter the basic level of the position.



Requirements:


  • Previous experience working with this student population;
  • Associate degree or higher;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire others;
  • Proven ability to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Additional Information:


Salary Range: $18.00 - 20.00 Hourly Wage

Classification Type: Temporary Employee; grant funded through June 30, 2022.

Work Schedule: Up to 18 hours/week (Monday - Friday). Requires flexibility to work occasional evenings and/or weekends as demand dictates.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Works in an office setting. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The individual needs to move about inside the office to access office machinery. Constantly operates a computer and other equipment i.e. copier. This person frequently communicates with students, faculty and staff. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

COVID VACCINATION REQUIREMENT:

Candidates for employment should be aware that all STCC students, faculty and staff are required to be fully vaccinated by January, 2022. Accordingly, initial employment is dependent upon receipt and verification of full vaccination status and details regarding how to fulfill vaccine documentation requirements will be shared during the hire and onboarding process.

INFORMATION AWARENESS SECURITY TRAINING:

Candidates for employment should be aware that all STCC employees are required to complete Information Awareness Security Training within thirty days of their orientation date and annually thereafter.
