Job Description:


The STEM: Estrategias de Acceso y Retencion Project activity and expected outcome is to increase the percent of Hispanic and low-income students entering, progressing, completing, and transferring in STEM disciplines.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Reporting to the grant Project Director, the STEM Research Fellow will be responsible for the following functions related to the evaluation of research questions investigating the efficacy of courses targeted to assist students in their retention and progression in STEM fields.
  • Collects, processes, and manages a variety of quantitative data. Sorts, updates, and merges data files from a variety of sources.
  • Ensures the quality and accuracy of imported or derived data, including identifying anomalies that require resolution prior to analysis and reporting.
  • Creates longitudinal data sets using statistical software and/or SQL.
  • Provides timely and accurate responses to inquiries and requests.
  • Assists with the administration of internal/external surveys.
  • Build a body of research that will meet the What Works Clearinghouse Evidence standards with reservations to show the impact of STEM oriented courses and targeted programming on student recruitment and student retention.
  • Work with STEM Center staff and tutors and STEM faculty and adjuncts.

Abilities and Skills:
  • Experience managing and manipulating large data sets;
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis;
  • Ability to generate reports interpreting data for varied audiences;
  • Highly motivated, resourceful and self-directed with the ability to deliver under pressure;
  • Ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to handle sensitive information appropriately;
  • Very strong attention to detail;
  • Experience with Microsoft office and Google applications;
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills required;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a diverse constituency of faculty, staff, and students.



Requirements:


  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a STEM or STEM related field.
  • Graduate student in a STEM or STEM related field
  • Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills to support interactions with diverse academic and non-academic audiences
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to produce reports.
  • A commitment to working in a culturally diverse, urban community college.

SALARY: $45.33/hour
