General Purpose
Undergeneral supervision,participates in the development and use of scenario-based,nursing skills educationusingmannequins andcomplex technical human patient simulationsto create a realistic and stimulating learning environment for nursing students;and performsrelated duties as assigned.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Setsupfor simulation lab sessionsincluding:computerhardware,softwareand network connectivity;high-orlow-fidelity nursing mannequinsprogrammed for specificnursingscenariosimulations;associatedinstruments,drugs, solutions and supplies such as sharps and chuck padsand requiredsimulated hospital room layout;matchesinstructor requests for mannequinsand skills scenarioswith available equipment; schedulesuse of lab and equipment; maintainsand performs minor repairs onmannequins and other equipment.
  • Usingcomputers and other technical equipmentand software, runs simulationsof nursingscenariosduring skills labs;monitors progress of simulations and intervenes to restorenetwork communicationandresolveother problems; manually runs simulation equipment when necessary.
  • Provides orientation and advice to instructors on simulation laboratory procedures; demonstrates proper techniques, use of tools, operation of equipment and location and use of materials.
  • Participatesin faculty development activities on simulation-based learning;participates in formulating new simulation exercises based on nursing curriculum and student- or faculty-identified needs and currentclinicalpractice issues; participates in defining learning outcomes and storyboard scenes;participates in preparingscripts for characters and simulation paths;evaluates and recommends changes to simulation scenarios and procedures;develops andprograms new scenarios or revisions to simulation scenarios; makes changes to default settings.
  • Sets upcontracts for servicing and repairofmannequins and othersimulation-relatedequipment; researches vendors for price and quality; prepares purchase requisitionsfor parts, materials and supplies.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance and cleanliness of simulation and skills laboratories to protect the health and safety of students, faculty and staff; oversees the cleaning and sanitizing of furniture, work surfaces, mannequins and other equipment.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to and understanding of historically minoritized groups and participates in professional development activities to increase cultural competency to enhance equity-minded practices within the District.

    OTHER DUTIES
  • Assists faculty in utilizing specializedSchool of Nursingtechnologies; troubleshoots and resolves problems or refers issues to Information Technology for resolution.
  • Stayscurrent on technical and educational developments in the field of nursing simulation.
  • Performsrelated duties as assigned.

  • Set up, maintain and resolve problems with simulation mannequins, equipment, tools and computers.
  • Apply sound learning theory and knowledge of real-life clinical health care situations to the developmentand modification ofeffective scenario-based exercises for nursing students.
  • Give clear, concise explanations of complex nursing concepts, practices and procedures to students.
  • Provide effective instructional support to faculty and guidance to studentsin subject-matter areas applicable to area of assignment.
  • Organize, set priorities and exercise sound,independent judgment within areas of responsibility.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
    Anassociate degree in nursing or ahealth care-related fieldand at leasttwoyears of progressively responsible experience indirect patient carein a health care-related environment;or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    APPLICATION REVIEW AND ASSESSMENTS
    The application review process includes an evaluation of training and experience based on given application information and answers to supplemental questionnaire. Only the most qualified applicants, who pass the minimum qualifications review, will be invited to the assessment process.

    The assessment process will also include an online competency assessment (40% weight) and a performance assessment (60% weight). Passing score is 75% out of 100% on each assessment section.

    Candidates who attain a passing score on each part of the assessment will be placed in rank order on a district wide Open-Competitive List. Using the same process, a separate Promotional List will be established and both Lists will be used concurrently. Unless otherwise indicated, the eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies in this classification districtwide for at least one year.The current vacancy is located at Fresno City College.
