Job Description:


The High School Equivalency Instruction will provide student-centered instruction in reading, social studies, writing language arts, math and science. The instructor will provide face-to-face instruction and online instruction. All instructors create and use prepared unit plans and lesson plans, prepare objectives, timed agendas following College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Learners and best practices for instruction. Other duties include conducting, preparing, and analyzing student assessments, curriculum, support materials and record keeping. The program seeks to guide learners in identifying career goals and in developing work readiness skills in relation to goals, leading to employment or placement in a job training or educational program. The Instructor will create an environment that supports students in their pursuit of academics with level appropriate activities, projects, assessments and instruction. Student engagement and retention are vital to meeting student goals. The instructor works closely with the advisor to provide student support.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides high quality instruction related to increasing knowledge and skills toward the attainment of a high school equivalency and college/career readiness.
  • Works closely with the Education and Career Advisor to guide learners in identifying career goals and developing work readiness skills in relation to that goal including providing information about careers, career pathways, area employment opportunities contextualized in unit and lesson plans, guides learners to understand educational programs, job training, or employment opportunities related to their interests.
  • Works closely with day and evening staff to create a collaborative learning environment while utilizing a variety of instructional methods, techniques and on campus/online resources.
  • Prepares thematic units and associated lesson plans in alignment with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education using a contextualized and integrated curriculum.
  • Using unit plans and lesson plans prepares Google Classroom, instructional videos, models, labs, class websites, links, challenges, games, projects for face-to-face/online instruction.
  • Creates and turns in unit plans and lesson plans with supporting materials prior to teaching the lesson or unit.
  • Works closely with Educational and Career Advisor and other program staff to develop and maintain student assessment schedules in order to meet program goals and fulfill funding requirements.
  • Assesses ABE students in all subject areas, MAPT assessments in reading and math and provides other assessments based on instructional needs.
  • Participates in program planning, curriculum development, and program continuous improvement activities and requirements.
  • Attends meetings, participates in programs, projects and other duties as needed.



Requirements:


  • Bachelors' degree is required, in Education, psychology, social work or related areas of study.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication in English, and technology skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Commitment to learner-centered, life-long learning; professional development.
  • Believes students can learn and willing to meet the needs of the students.
  • Ability to teach in person and/or online.
  • Positive attitude, patience, and ability to explain concepts to all learners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least two (2) years' experience working with a diverse population.
  • Ability to teach all subjects (reading, language arts, writing, social studies, math or science content).
  • Master's degree preferred; trained on MAPT, and other assessments preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with DESE funded Adult Community Learning programs preferred.

SALARY: $30.00/hour

WORK SCHEDULE: Up to 18.75 hours per week

TRAVEL: Position based on STCC Campus although travel to and from Hampden county program sites will be expected.
