Essential Functions:
The ideal candidate will share Reedley College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of the 2017-2018 academic year, we currently enroll over 16,000 students of which 71% are Latinx, 6% are Asian/Pacific Islander, 2% are Black/African American, 17% are White, 1% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% are multiracial. The successful candidate will join a program dedicated to excellence in education for a diverse population.
Providing instruction in Physical Education/Soccer, Kinesiology, and Health on the Reedley College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, the head coach/instructor will be responsible for:

  • Teaching and developing courses in physical education and health science, which may include a Fall/Spring coaching assignment, depending on qualifications and experience;

  • Participating in evaluation of adjunct instructors per the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement;

  • Collecting data on student learning outcomes;

  • Developing and implementing a strong student/athlete recruitment program for soccer, including the recruiting assignments of all assistant coaches;

  • Assisting in building strong relations between the community and the athletic department, particularly with the high schools of the District;

  • Assisting student athletes completing their academic requirements at the community college to transfer to four year institutions;

  • Fundraising;

  • Providing direction for all facets of a successful college women's soccer program, including the selection and direct oversight of assistant coaches;

  • Ensuring program compliance with the CCCAA regulations;

  • Developing and implementing a strong student/athlete recruitment program for women's soccer;

  • Communicating effectively with students and staff;

  • Participating in professional workshops and serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;

  • Participating in program review and curriculum development, including student learning outcomes to improve student learning;

  • Participating in the extracurricular activities for the program and/or college;

  • Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and time (including evenings and/or weekends, face to face, hybrid, online, off-campus and large group instruction classes) as needed; and

  • Otherwise fulfilling all the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters in physical education, exercise science, kinesiology;

    AND

  • Two years of coaching experience;

    OR

  • A valid California Community College Credential;

    OR

  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Current CPR/AED/First Aid and trainer certifications;
  • Extent of previous teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level;
  • Extent of related work and professional experience;
  • Extent of working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Collaborate with athletic support staff (trainer, equipment manager, etc.) to meet team needs;
  • Experience in game scheduling, assisting with team eligibility processes, budget management, team travel, recruitment and supervision of assistant coaching staff, fundraising, mentoring student-athletes and supporting their academic progress, retention, and matriculation;
  • Involvement in community organizations activities;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusions of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.


Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary is $55,650 $83,782 based on education and experience and a stipend of ten percent (10%) of the annual base salary. A doctoral stipend of $2,082 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement. From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview. The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the ecommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
