Job Description:


Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, the Lab Technician is responsible for supporting and enhancing the College's Graphic Art Technology Programs. The incumbent will work together with all faculty and staff to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in which all can succeed. This candidate will maintain the Graphic Communications & Photography program's lab environment and equipment, and assist in the instruction of students in the use of technical equipment.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintain a safe and proper operation in the department's Macintosh computer and press labs, photography studios, and demonstrate excellence in the following areas:
  • Maintain all of the department's different cameras, studio and on-location lighting equipment, and oversee the operation of the Photography programs' studios, professional inkjet printers, and matting and print presentation equipment.
  • Sign out cameras, lenses, and portable lighting equipment to authorized department students, and provide those students with training and technical support.
  • Assist department faculty in the operation and maintenance of the Canon digital printing press, 3D printer, dye sublimation printer, vinyl cutter, embroidery machine, screen printing system, mug press, airbrushing lab and related equipment.
  • Ensure that necessary equipment and supplies are available to faculty and students.
  • Restock inventory and provide ordering list.
  • Set up required equipment and tools for weekly labs prior to the start of the lab sessions, and assist in the breakdown of the same following the labs.
  • Assist faculty in carrying out moderately complex technical routines with minimal supervision or instruction.
  • Monitor students during lab sessions (proper safety gear during the lab and safe behavior), and assist in the instruction of students in the use, operation, safety, and maintenance of technical apparatus and equipment.
  • Place required work orders for necessary building maintenance.
  • Perform special projects and related responsibilities as initiated and requested.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by department faculty.



Requirements:


  • High school diploma required. Vocational high school diploma preferred.
  • Minimum of (2) years of experience in the graphic design and photography industry that includes hands on experience.
  • A Certificate in Graphic Communications and Photography/Graphic Arts; Associates degree preferred.
  • Possess professional experience in the use of digital SLR/mirrorless camera systems, and professional studio and OCF (off camera flash) lighting systems.
  • Must be knowledgeable with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Light room, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Acrobat, and the Microsoft Office Suite, and assist Graphic Design & Photography students using the programs.
  • Ability to assist students in the proper use of moderately complex technical equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is generally performed in a classroom or lab setting. Work involves a high activity level and pace, and competing time demands. Essential tasks require typing/keyboard skills, phone usage, and reading, speaking, and listening. Use office equipment and computer keyboards requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity. Balancing, crouching, grasping, pulling, reaching and stooping may also be required.
