Job Description:


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Financial Aid Counselor will work directly with the staff in Student Financial Services and assist with all financial aid operations in a high energy environment. This position is responsible for verification of students' financial aid files, R2T4 calculations, and managing the federal work study program. Responsibilities include administrative tasks associated with department activities (i.e.- performs file review/ verification; reviews SAP status and determines SAP eligibility; R2T4 calculations, organizes and maintains financial aid information and confidential files; completes/mails forms for outside agencies; prepares brochures, flyers, mnemonics guides, instructional materials, and general correspondence; reviews or refers to applications, degree audits, tax returns, benefit statements, medical reports, financial aid transcripts, rosters, payment reports, bulletins, regulations, catalogs, policies, procedures, and reference materials; operates a computer and utilizes word processing, spreadsheets, database, or other software programs).

Supervision received: Reports directly to the Associate Director of Financial Aid.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Performs financial aid file review including verification and packaging of federal, state and institutional aid.
  • Performs and manages Return to Title IV calculations
  • Managing the Federal Work Study program.
  • Counseling students and parents on the financial aid application process.
  • Supporting the customer service operations of the Student Financial Services Office.
  • Serving as the resource person for the clerical staff.
  • Representing Student Financial Services at open houses, orientation and other student oriented events.
  • Conducting financial aid presentations both on and off-campus.
  • Creating correspondence letters, emails and other forms of communications used to inform students of outstanding requirements needed to complete their financial aid files.
  • Performing other assigned administrative tasks associated with Student Financial Services operations.



Requirements:


Qualified applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years experience and/or training involving financial aid operations, or loan processing; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Applicants must have working knowledge of federal regulations, need analysis, and student financial aid processes.
Applicants should have experience working with integrated educational software as well as various p.c. applications such Microsoft applications.
Excellent counseling and advising skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Strong customer service and organizational skills.
Strong analytical skills are a plus.
Experience working with a diverse student population is a plus.
Must be able to work independently, also as a team player, and be able to work under pressure.

Ability to multi-task and provide attention to detail.


Additional Information:


SALARY: Grade 3, $47,597 - $68,240. Actual salary will be commensurate with academic background and experience per the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement. See http://www.mass.edu/shared/collbargaining/mccc.pdf
