New Mexico State University Alamogordo is seeking a full time Assistant Professor of Biological or Life Sciences

Position Summary:

New Mexico State University Alamogordo is seeking an Assistant to Associate Professor, for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position. The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, providing 30-credit hours of instruction per academic year (15-credits per Fall and Spring semesters) in Biology courses, face to face and online. Teaching assignments may include teaching weekdays, weekends, evenings, online, hybrid and off-campus. Courses include Human Biology; Cell & Molecular Biology; Human Anatomy and Physiology (for non-majors); Human Pathophysiology; and/or Microbiology, among others. Coursework usually includes lecture and lab sections. Duties will include developing, revising, and updating curriculum in collaboration with department, college, and university faculty according to established curriculum procedures. Duties will also include instructing, supporting, advising and providing timely feedback to students in accordance with NMSU-A policies and procedures. Providing professional and public service is also expected. The individual selected must maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities. The individual selected will also perform other related duties as assigned to them.

Specific Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 15 credits each semester in Biology
  • Teach weekdays, weekends, evenings, online, hybrid and off-campus as needed
  • Develop, revise, and update curriculum in collaboration with department, college, and university faculty according to established curriculum procedures.
  • Instruct, support, advise and provide timely feedback to students in accordance with NMSU-A policies and procedures
  • Provide professional and public service via committee work, task forces, and other working groups
  • Maintain professional and academic competence and participate in professional development activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to them

Required Qualifications and Knowledge:

  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Record of teaching excellence
  • Ability to adapt to a modern learning environment, including online quality assurance
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and with other faculty and administration
  • Understanding of the community college mission and philosophy
  • Demonstrated interest in working with the community

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in a related field
  • Community college or university teaching experience
  • Experience with online instruction and Quality Matters
  • Prior experience with student success initiatives
