Applications are now being accepted for the position of Assistant Professor, Mathematics at San Diego City College beginning Fall 2019. One of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District, City College is an urban campus, minutes away from a world-class zoo and Balboa Park, providing academic and career-technical offerings to meet the needs of a diverse student population. While the current vacancy is at City College, applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment at any District facility at the option of the Chancellor. Assignment may include day, evening, Saturday, and/or off-campus classes.

Major Responsibilities:
The Assistant Professor of Mathematics reports to the Dean of the School of Engineering Technologies, Mathematics, Nursing and Science. The Assistant Professor is expected to perform the following duties: supervise and instruct students in remedial and transfer level mathematics courses ranging from pre-algebra through differential equations, integrate technology into the classroom as a teaching and learning tool, participate in mathematics department meetings, participate in curriculum development, maintain office hours for student advisement and counseling, participate in various college and/or district committees which promote shared governance at City College, and fulfill the responsibilities of a community college instructor in accordance with the district-adopted description.

Qualifications:
Masters in mathematics or applied mathematics OR Bachelors in either of the above AND Masters in statistics, physics or mathematics education OR the equivalent.

Demonstrate evidence of a professional growth history and a future developmental plan to continue a mastery of the theory and applications of mathematics. Demonstrate a mastery of a wide variety of mathematics and mathematical applications in related fields. Demonstrate experience or interest in incorporating innovative teaching materials and techniques into the classroom. Demonstrate experience or knowledge in implementing technology in the classroom, including online resources, mathematical software and/or computer applications. Demonstrate experience or knowledge in the development and delivery of mathematics courses with a non-traditional curriculum structure, including math course that incorporate concurrent support. Demonstrate an appreciation and knowledge of the wide range of levels in the mathematics curriculum currently offered at a community college and its off-campus sites. Demonstrate ability, interest or knowledge in creating and/or assisting in the development of curriculum in mathematics or related fields. Demonstrate experience or knowledge in the development of innovative, culturally minded curriculum intended to accelerate the pathway of developmental level math students to transfer level mathematics. Demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of the mission of the community college and the responsibilities of its faculty in realizing this mission. Demonstrate experience and ability to make effective classroom presentations using appropriate methodologies. Demonstrate experience and/or knowledge in working with students of great diversity in socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities.

Pay Information:
Class 1, Step A Class 6, Step C ($5,783.69 $7,793.19) per month based on the current AFT COLLEGE Faculty Tenured-Tenured Track Monthly Salary Schedule.

Initial salary placement for this Assistant Professor is commensurate with required education and related teaching experience as outlined in section A2.1 of the AFT Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and it is non-negotiable. The District offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package including employer paid medical, dental, vision plans, sick leave, and opportunities for professional development. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. Benefits will be provided under the terms of the AFT-Guild, Local 1931 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Annual Salaries will be recalculated for service less than a full academic year based on Education Code 87815, any required adjustment will be made with-in the first pay period. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling more than 200 miles, one-way, may be paid according to geographic location (see SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy, Rev 7/14/2011). Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor.
